Ice fishing PDF Print

Spring in Lapland is a wonderful time. While the cherry trees are in blossom in the south of the country, the snow and ice are metre-deep in the Arjeplog mountains. For those of us who love fishing on the ice, this is the highlight of the year.

It is light outside well into the evenings and a snowmobile will take us to the most inaccessible waters. The object of our efforts above all others is the char. It is found in nearly all the waters in the Arjeplog mountain region.

Lake Tjeggelvas and Lake Hornavan are popular for ice fishing. Most of the char in these lakes are at 25 - 40 m depth. The Hornavan char often changes to a fish diet once it has reached a lenght of about 30 cm, and is then fished mainly late in autumn with a home-made lure.

Lake Akkelis and Lake Rapatjärn are two popular destinations for an excursion. Both have cabins that are for rent and use. In Rapatjärn is it also possible to rent the sauna.
