Storavan is the inland’s own archipelagos. Large populations of salmon trout. The best time occurs in the first week of July. Big pike and perch can also be found here. Harbours with ramps in the village of Gullön and Avaviken. Charts and maps available from tourist office in Arvidsjaur.
SVEAFISKE IMPLANTED LAKES
One to three years old fish are planted every year into these lakes. This occurs in some other lakes owned by Sveafiske too, especially in the waters near Piteälven. Fishing is prohibited from the 15/09 till the 31/12 in all of these lakes, except for Hunträsket, where fishing is allowed all year round.
Stenträsket is located approximately twelve kilometres southwest of Arvidsjaur, five hundred and fifty-five kilometres above sea level, and has an area of 400 hectares and an average depth of eight metres. The lake is part of the Akkanåke-Vitjåkk Mountain Forest reserve, and has a tendency to be sensitive to wind. At the lake there are boats and cabins for hire, which can be done through Arvidsjaur’s tourist office. Normally there are large populations of char and salmon trout, with weight records around three and five kilograms.
Hundträsket is located 25 kilometres north-east of Arvidsjaur, and has a surface area of about 40 hectares. Hundträsket is very well known for its grayling, but there is also fine salmon trout to be caught. The best fishing occurs shortly after the ice breaks, but this lake is open all year round for fishing.
Brännlidentjärna is a group of lakes located 20 kilometres north of Arvidsjaur. Char and salmon trout are the major fish found here. The lakes are Brännträsket, Ljusvattnet and Holmtjärn.
Reivosjöarna are situated 22 kilometres north-west of Arvidsjaur in the Reivo virgin Forest reservation. Surface area is approximately 100 hectares and the average depth is 18 metres. Offers beautiful scenery, with many capes, small islands, sunken rocks and creeks. In northern Reivo, char and salmon trout dominate, and in the south it is the grayling. Trolling with a big streamer is a good tip for catching big salmon trout. In the middle of southern Reivo there is a sunken rock that almost surfaces, and this is usually a good spot for catching grayling. The area guide can give you further hints and has a weighing station. Cabins and boats available for rent. A special brochure including a detailed map is available for sale, and all enquiries should be directed to the Arvidsjaur tourist office.
PIKE AND PERCH LAKES

LAKES AND STILL WATERS IN CENTRAL ARVIDSJAUR
Nyborgstjärn is located in central Arvidsjaur. Suited for family fishing for rainbow salmon, speckled trout and trout in a park like environment. Boat rental and landing stage available. Walking path. High middle weight fish and dense vegetation. Fishing restrictions apply from when the ice begins to melt until the first or second week Saturday in June. Contact Hotel Laponia for boat bookings.
Prästjärn lies to the left of Arvidsjaur. It is one of the country’s best lakes for fishing large salmon trout with flies, and fish weighing 2-3 kilograms have been caught with this method. A cold spring lake with high pH levels. Surface area of eight hectares. The lake accommodates a high population of gammarus shrimp. Big flies like the “Wolly Worm” is a tip. The lake has numerous casting zones, it has also been treated with rotenone as late as 1991, but the pikes have started to re-establish. Every year two years old salmon trout are being implanted. Fishing is prohibited from when the ice sets until the first or second Saturday in June. Minimum length for salmon trout is 40cm. Only fly-fishing is allowed.
Larstjärnarna that lies just to the north of Arvidsjaur has populations of salmon trout and rainbow salmon, and plenty of small perch. A golf course is connected with the shores.
Abmorälven runs between Moskosel and Piteälven for a stretch of about ten kilometres. Good grayling fishing at times. Upstream in the water system, to the left of the lake Malmessjaure, is an area called Suobdekalven. The best fishing occurs there, as a rule, in the month of June.In the village of Akutsjaur char have been implanted in the nearby lake of Djuptjärn.
Nyträsket eighteen kilometres east of Arvidsjaur is an excellent example of fish nurturing. The lake has an area of about fifty hectares, an average depth of five metres and a high pH level. Salmon trout and grayling have been implanted on a yearly basis and good results have been shown, especially with the salmon trout, which have grown successfully.
Dårasjaur is easily accessed, since it lies close to highway 45, just north of Moskosel. Good populations of salmon trout and grayling as well as pike. The fish are shy, so fishing at night is recommended in the summer time.
Petikån runs south from Glommersträsk. Good grayling fishing in a rather wild terrain. Only the upper parts are accessible to the public through the ‘Sveafiskekortet’. To access the lower parts of the lake the property owner‘s permission must be sought. On the side that lies within Västerbotten, Rörträsk Fvo sublets the fishing.
RIVERS AND STREAMS
Piteälven- 50 kilometres north of Arvidsjaur is a big river with its springs originating in the mountains of Arjeplog’s glaciers. There is good grayling and salmon trout fishing. The upper and western parts of Trollforsarna are considered to be among the better, but a boat could be useful in the calm water. Downstream, the river narrows, and the average size of the fish decreases. The lowest water level occurs in August, which also provides the best fishing. The area is popular among campers. Minimum length on grayling is 30 cm and for salmon trout 35 cm.
Byskeälven lies 7 kilometres east of Arvidsjaur. This is a typical Forrest river with a population if salmon trout, grayling and whitefish. A protected fishing reserve stretches from Arvidsjaur down to the municipality border, and a wide range of precautions has been taken. There is a lot of small fish in the river and if caught they should be gently put back in to the water. Minimum length for grayling is 25cm, salmon trout 35cm. Fishing is prohibited from the 31st of August till the 10th of June.
Slagnäsforsen and Bergnäsälven lies 55 kilometres west of Arvidsjaur and is part of the regulated Skellefteälven. The main section is within Arjeplog’s municipality. Here you get the chance to catch some fat salmon trout, but generally it is hard to make a catch. Since the food mainly consists of small whitefish, the most common method of fishing is spinning with a wobbler.
Hints: cast diagonally upstream and let the currents take the bait, this way the salmon will be fooled into thinking it is an injured whitefish. The best time to try this method is in June and August. The biggest catch has been 9.7 kilograms. The season is limited from the third Saturday in June until the 15th of August. Minimum length for salmon trout is 35cm. Apart from that there are a large number of streams, for example Varjisan north of Piteälven, Abmorälven outside Moskosel, Långträsken and Svärdälven out of Arvidsjaur and Petikån out of Glommersträsk. Most of the small streams have both salmon trout and grayling.
