Västerfjäll was developed 1863 by Enar Jonsson Ståntje, and was the biggest settlement around Tjeggelvas with their three farms. The chapel was built in 1957 and opened during the summer by bishop Hylander in the presence of minister Ivar Persson and a few more. The chapel received many rich gifts, for example a church bell from King Gustaf Adolf. The chapel is reachable by boat.
